Computer-Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application V4 (CatiaV4)¶
CatiaV4 is a native CAD format developed in 1993 by Dassault Systèmes as part of the CATIA system. Primarily used in aerospace and automotive industries, it stores 3D models, assemblies, PMI, and metadata. CatiaV4 files are binary-encoded and fully supported for structure, geometry, and auxiliary data in instant3Dhub.
🔍 See 3D Data Concepts for details and definitions.
Extensions¶
Supported:
.model: They contain geometry (solids, surfaces, wireframe) for what would be a “Part” in later versions.
.exp: Export files used for data exchange.
.session: Files that store assembly sessions or overlays of multiple models.
Not supported:
.dlv
.dlv3
.dlv4
.mod / .mdl
.project
Structure¶
TBD
Geometry¶
CatiaV4 supports both exact geometry through boundary representations (B-Rep) and approximate geometry through tessellations.
Tesselation¶
TBD
B-Rep¶
CatiaV4 employs B-Rep geometry, storing wireframe, surface, and solid elements. instant3Dhub supports these elements directly, enabling accurate visualization and analysis.
PMI & Model Views¶
PMI & Model Views are not supported in CatiaV4.
Metadata¶
CatiaV4 metadata are supported in instant3Dhub.
