PLM XML

PLM XML is an XML-based format defined by Siemens for exchanging structured product data in PLM environments. Unlike generic XML files, it follows a standardized schema with defined semantics for assemblies, metadata, configurations, and external representations — enabling interoperability across PLM systems.

It captures product structure, metadata, manufacturing information, and references to geometry in a machine-readable way. instant3Dhub fully supports PLM XML, enabling efficient visualization and interaction with complete product models by resolving the linked representations.

Extensions

  • .plmxml

Structure

PLM XML encodes the complete assembly structure, including parts, hierarchies, and transformations, within the XML file. instant3Dhub preserves and interprets this structure independently of external geometry files.

Geometry

PLMXML is an XML-based assembly description which usually is used in conjunction with JT files. It does not contain any geometry but just a collection of nodes.

PMI & Model Views

PLM XML PMI and Model Views are supported by instant3Dhub.

Metadata

PLM XML metadata is supported by instant3Dhub.
